Johnson & Murphy Boosts Retail Operations and Labor Efficiency with Real-Time Insights

We spoke with Taylor Cosmo, Workforce Management Coordinator at Johnson & Murphy, about how StoreForce helped the brand streamline labor planning, reduce costs, and make store management more data-driven—all while simplifying access to actionable insights.

About Johnson & Murphy

Johnson & Murphy is a leading retailer known for high-quality footwear and accessories, with a focus on customer service and operational excellence. As the brand expanded its store network, Johnson & Murphy needed better visibility into labor performance, scheduling, and store-level metrics to support consistent execution and profitability.

1. Streamlining labor planning with real-time data

Before StoreForce, Johnson & Murphy faced challenges in turning store data into actionable insights. Labor planning was time-consuming, relied on historical spreadsheets, and made it difficult to respond quickly to changing store needs.

Taylor explained:

“It was fantastic to see how quickly and more easily it was to get the data together and to see something actionable from a store management perspective.”

With StoreForce, managers now have instant visibility into labor allocation, helping them make smarter decisions about staffing and assignments while keeping costs in check.

2. Reducing labor costs and improving target assignments

StoreForce’s intuitive interface made it easier for Johnson & Murphy to analyze last year’s data and plan for the current fiscal year.

Taylor shared:

“I think probably the biggest way that it has helped with labor costs and specifically like target assignment for that is your guys’ interface is extremely easy to use… everything is far easier in terms of using last year’s data to create and move off of those for the current FY.”

By turning historical data into actionable planning tools, the team can optimize staffing, reduce overstaffing, and ensure the right associates are scheduled at the right time.

3. Quick adoption and actionable insights

While there was a learning curve initially, Johnson & Murphy quickly saw the benefits of StoreForce. Taylor noted:

“Once we got past the learning curve, probably within a quarter we were sort of rocking and rolling.”

The platform allows managers to track performance in real time, coach staff effectively, and make data-driven decisions without waiting for end-of-day or end-of-week reports.

Why real-time workforce management matters

For Johnson & Murphy, replacing manual scheduling and disconnected data with a real-time workforce management solution transformed store operations. The approach enables:

  • Streamlined labor planning and target assignment
  • Actionable insights for immediate decision-making
  • Reduced administrative work and operational overhead
  • Faster adoption and measurable improvements in store execution

If your retail operations still rely on spreadsheets or siloed systems, modern workforce management can optimize labor, empower store managers, and drive consistent performance across all locations.
